What is a consistency rule?
A consistency rule limits how much of your total profit can come from a single trading day. Firms use it to make sure you passed with repeatable trading, not one lucky session. It's usually written as a percentage: with a 50% rule, your best day can be no more than half of your total profit.
How a big day raises your target
The rule doesn't fail you for having a big day. Instead, it raises the profit you need before you can pass or request a payout. The formula is simple:
Required profit = best day ÷ consistency percentage, or the normal target, whichever is higher.
Worked example
You're on a 50K evaluation with a $3,000 profit target and a 50% consistency rule. On day two you make $1,800.
- Required profit = $1,800 ÷ 0.50 = $3,600.
- Your real target is now $3,600, not $3,000.
- If you'd made $1,500 instead, $1,500 ÷ 0.50 = $3,000, so your target wouldn't change.
With a stricter 40% rule, the same $1,800 day would push your target to $4,500.
Where you'll see consistency rules
Rules differ by firm, plan and stage. Examples from our reviews:
- Take Profit Trader: 50% best-day rule on new Tests.
- MyFundedFutures Rapid: 50% best-day rule in the evaluation.
- Tradeify: 40% on Select evaluations, 35% on Growth funded accounts.
- Lucid Trading: 40% on LucidPro funded accounts, none on LucidFlex funded.
- Bulenox: 35% on Momentum Master accounts.
- Apex: 50% consistency on Performance Account payouts.
How to trade around it
- Set a daily profit cap just under your target times the consistency percentage, for example under $1,500 for a $3,000 target with a 50% rule.
- Stop trading once you hit it. Extra profit that day can cost you more days later.
- Recalculate after any big day so you know your new target.
- Check the funded rules too. Some firms apply the rule only in the evaluation, others only when you request a payout.
